SORCHA & ABDULLAH

When we first met, we immediately became really good friends. Our shared interests in politics, philosophy, and funny online videos kept us up late at night, often chatting on long distance video calls.

 

Being five hours ahead, for a time Sorcha was taking her cue to go to bed from the singing of the birds in the morning. We soon realised that that was unsustainable, and made plans to visit each other. 

 

Looking back on it, we definitely should have gotten some sort of loyalty program with Aer Lingus, because once we started visiting each other we couldn’t stop. We met each other’s wonderful families, who supported us both from the start. From there it became clear that we wanted to spend the rest of our lives together.

 

In November of 2022, when Sorcha came over to Canada for her birthday, Abdullah proposed. Over the course of our relationship, our conversations have only gotten better, and our laughter louder (Sorcha's in particular). We have brought out the best in each other. Abdullah went from having never visited a different Canadian province to travelling to Germany, France, England, Donegal, and the Netherlands. We have made so many friends along the way.

 

Together we have made each other more confident. We fit together like a puzzle, good friends that fell in love. When we're not embarking on adventures or diving into books and discussions, we find solace in leisurely walks, hand in hand, revelling in the beauty of nature.

 

Finally, after such a long wait apart, we are getting married and putting an end to the long distance calls for good. Now no matter where we go, or where we end up, we know at least that we will always be there together.
